Local Scout Completes Trail Project at Camp Spelman

Franklin Township, OH –

Portage Park District thanks and congratulates local Boy Scout Jared Ruehr and his Troop #444 from Aurora who completed a trail project at Camp Spelman to earn Jared the rank of Eagle. Jared gave guided tours of the new trail at a Friends of Portage Parks event sponsored by the Portage Park District Foundation in October.

Park District Operations Manager Craig Alderman presented Jared with a Certificate of Appreciation for his work planning, fundraising and construction of the trail this summer and fall. Jared also donated $160 of unused funds that were raised by his troop for this trail project to the Portage Park District Foundation for contributions to future scout projects in the District.

Jared is a very active young man in the Portage County community. Hailing from Aurora, Jared became a scout in first grade and currently plays soccer & runs track for Aurora. He owns and operates a small tent rental business, as well as playing trumpet in marching band and French horn in symphonic orchestra. Jared also is a member of the Aurora quiz bowl team.

The Portage Park District values the work done by Scouts throughout the Parks in Portage County.  Local scouts are encouraged to contact the District with project requests at 330-297-7728 or calderman@portageparkdistrict.org.
