May 19, 2012: River Day
On Saturday, May 19, join Friends of the Crooked River and co-sponsor Appalachian Outfitters in a celebration of the benefits of a “free-flowing” Cuyahoga River. When RiverDay began twenty-two years ago, there were eight major dams on the Cuyahoga River. Over the last ten years, two have been removed: Kent and Munroe Falls. This summer, two more dams will fall in Cuyahoga Falls! Partners from all over the watershed are working to establish a Cuyahoga River Water Trail. Water quality in Akron will be greatly improved, thanks to the city’s plan to correct its sewer overflows. The events planned for RiverDay 2012 will applaud this work, honor the results of past efforts and preview what dreams may emerge, including removing the BIG DAM.

July 14, 2012: Headwaters Adventure Race & Fitness Walk
Buchert Park, Mantua Village: Save the Date! Join this fun event presented by the Portage Park District Foundation that showcases the beautiful landscapes of northern Portage County, and supports trails and watershed conservation. Run (or walk) 2 miles on the Headwaters Trail, cycle 10 miles to Camp Hi Canoe Livery, paddle 10 miles on the beautiful Upper Cuyahoga Scenic River back to Buchert Park. Includes some adventures! Participate in the Fitness Walk portion only, or in the race as part of a team or solo. Registration begins in Mid-May so start training!
